What makes a Healthy Forest.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to have a healthy forest, after all there are millions upon millions of acres of forest in the United States, some under the ownership of private companies and many more in the stewardship of National Forests, National Parks, State Parks and even individual ownership.
It takes forest managers to have a healthy forest, they have to know the species that grows in their woods, how else are they going to know how to make them thrive and the best way to nurture a healthy ecosystem.
The company I retired from is one such private company owning over 14 million acres of forest lands all over the United States, the picture below shows what a managed forest by such a company would look like.
The forest managers in Oklahoma and Arkansas have to know what it takes to make the forest healthy just like the forest managers of Oregon and Washington must know the same all while dealing with a different species of trees to manage. They have to know when to plant, when to thin, when to consider a control burn to clear out the dangerous build up of brush under the canopy and when to harvest.
Our spiritual lives are no different and need tending too, and God has provided resources for us. We need to study God’s Word the Bible to learn how to grow spiritually. We need to spend time with other believers in community building each other up and praying with and for one another. We also must keep an eye on our own spiritual health and look to the Holy Spirit for insight. Has sin crept in and needs to be uprooted, have we to many activities crowding out what would be a better use of our time and our time with God, perhaps some thinning needs to be done.
Nurturing our spiritual health is and ongoing process but its worth all the effort. Ask God to look at your heart and let Him do the planting that needs to take place the thinning that may need to be done, he knows where you are thriving and where you need to grow, He will guide you and me as we continue to grow in Him.
